What did I do all day???

I have to put a huge disclaimer on this post because Shawn is super appreciative of what I do at home and he always lets me know it too. But this past Saturday he stayed home while I went out for a few minutes and in that time he had the refrigerator all cleaned out and it was sparkling! I felt so bad when I got home... I felt like it was my job and that I was slaking :( I always do this to myself!!!! During the day I feel like I have to be going nonstop... or I'm lazy. But this cute story reminded me of all that I do during the day. I just thought it would make all of you moms out there feel appreciated!

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.

Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring on a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife.

He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?'

'Yes," was his incredulous reply.

She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it".

Great story! I think so much of what you do is routine so you forget about it. But it still takes up your time and energy.

I LOVE THIS STORY! I REMEMBER WHEN LEANN JOHANSON READ IT IN RELIEF SOCIETY. WE WERE ALL LAUGHING SO HARD. THE SAD THING ABOUT IT IS IN MY LIFE, IT IS TOTALLY WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I CHECKED OUT FOR A DAY!
IT WAS FUN TO SEE YOU AT LINS. JACK IS SUCH A CUTIE. HOPE YOUR PRESENTATION WENT WELL AT WORK.

That just totally made my day! My house would probably look somewhat like the description in that story if I took the day off :) Thanks for sharing!

I love that story. There are days I wonder what I've done all day...I know I kept busy and it was filled with something somehow. Well, this story answered it. Thanks for sharing!

I love that story. But that happens to me all the time. I can leave the kids with JT and when I come home he says they were perfect and he's doing something like cleaning out the fridge. It makes me feel really stupid, but I think if they did it everyday it would catch up to them. Plus when JT stayed home for a week after Jocelyn was born, he told me he really likes his office!

I've heard this story and I LOVE it. You are so cute. I feel just the same every day! Like if the hosue and Mason aren't sparkling clean that I'm not doing my job. You are such a good and cute mom/wife. Way to be such an inspiration!

I love the story. I'm the same way as you though, I'm a total busy body during the day and feel like if the house isn't clean, my work isn't done yet. I'm learning though that I can't do everything.
