Carving Pumpkins and Swine Flu

What do these two subjects have in common??? They both have the possibly of making Jack DEATHLY SICK!!!! Let me explain...

We carved pumpkins last night Jack was up on the chair helping Shawn pull out the guts... The second his hand touched the slim and his nose smelt the smell he was dry heaving so hard I thought he was going to loose his dinner! I guess he is more like his Mom than we thought. When I was young I was at a friends birthday party and they opened up the pizzas and they smelled stinky to me... and the older brother had to say something along the lines of barf pizza and you can guess what happen... I ruined the birthday party, classic! So Jack opted out of the first part of the pumpkin carving, but he did enjoy the end, especially when he got to put the light in the pumpkin! Fun Halloween memories.

Second reason for this post is I want to know what to do... do I give the Swine Flu Vaccine to Jack or not!!! I am so torn, I would hate for him to get sick but I am questioning the vaccine too! I am going to call my Dr. this afternoon and see what he thinks. The one thing that really scares me is Jack has had respiratory problem in the past when he has been sick! If anyone of you out there has an answer to my concern I would love to hear it!

Well, peace out and Happy Halloween!

Hayley! Jack is so adorable! He looks like he has the most darling personality. What a doll

Mya got the swine flu vaccine about 3 weeks ago and did totally fine with it. If you end up doing it, I would say opt for the shot instead of the mist though. I got the mist and got a cold (I did have a fever too so it might have been a small flu bug too or something) a couple days after. However, I might have picked that up waiting in the 3 hour line!! But yea, Mya did just fine. I think Brielle had Molly get it too and she did fine as well. I don't know, good luck on that decision.

I hate making big mom decisions!!

Im not going to give it to Ali. If she gets the flu she gets the flu.. I heard the vaccine is worse than the flu? I dont know, its such a hard choice..

Hi Hayley! I know it is a tough choice. I was really worried about having my kids get it, but I did and I am SOOO thankful I did! Luckily, they handled it very well. We did the mist and they did just fine. We also had them get the seasonal flu shot as well. They were a little crabby for a couple days Bailey (2) more than Taysum (4). Taysum has also had respritory problems when he gets sick. We were in the ER last year with RSV. If he gets sick, it goes right to his lungs and chest, but he did just fine. He is a little older now, too, but we had him get the seasonal flu shot when he was younger and he did just fine. Every one reacts different, but I am so thankful my kids got the vaccine; our family has stayed healthy while EVERYONE in our town has been sick with H1N1...go with your gut! Stay healthy and have a great Halloween. PS T had just gotten over Croup when he had the mist and he was just fine.

Hey Hayley! Love keeping up with your cute family on the blog!

As for the vaccine, Mikaela has been sick all week so I took her to the dr. on Tuesday and I asked him about it specifically. He gave me a thumbs up for the seasonal flu shot, but not on the swine flu shot. He said he is still a little wary of it since it's so new that unless there is a serious underlying health concern, he is advising his parents to hold off on this one. I was leaning that way anyway, but it was nice to have it reconfirmed by the dr.
I think the only way you can really decide is by studying up, talking to your dr and then going with your gut on what you think will be the best for little Jack. Hope that helps! Take care

He is getting so big, Molly loved the guts of the pumpkin and even tried some seeds while we were carving. She thought she was pretty clever.

The shot!
I debated this too, but when my doctor cuz I am pregnant told me to get it no matter what, he said it was way to risky, so I got it and have been fine. I then called Molly's pedi and they said they recommended it. We had to go to the health department for both of ours and had to wait a while, but it was well worth it. I would hate for either of us to get the flu. Better safe than sorry I guess. I would not let Jack get the nasal spray though, cuz it is a live virus and they have a chance to get a small strain of flu anyways. Only get him the shot! It was hard for me to decide, but I am glad we got it done. Molly didnt even get crabby or anything.

Hayley. Hello. So, this is what I talk with parents now everyday at the urgent care I work at. First of all the swine flu is all over Utah. The estimate is that 85% of the people who have the flu, have swine flu. If Jack had lung problems in the past when he got sick, I would say get the shot, because I don't know about St. George, but up here there is so much of the flu right now. I would recommend the shot over the mist, if you can because I have seen quite a few kids who have gotten the mist get quite sick from it, but I recommend getting it if you can find anyone who has the shot. Anyway, if you have any questions about the flu or anything, just call me and I can give you the real scoop, not the media scoop. Take care. I hope to see you guys soon. Here is my new number, I'm not sure you have it. 801 819-5254

My doc is not real pleased with the fact that I am refusing the vaccine and not giving it to Haley. But I have read and researched a lot and just can't seem to feel right about it. It is the fastest released and least researched vaccine in all of history. There are ingredients in it that have not been thoroughly tested, in my opinion. However, my best advice is research it and go with your mommy instinct and prayer. You'll get the answer that is right for your family. :)
